You may be in a lot of pain, both physically and mentally. You so desperately want to get back to the way you used to feel before chronic health issues hijacked your life.
Maybe your autoimmune symptoms just appeared one day or perhaps it was a slow progression. But nonetheless, you are left trying to navigate through life with “new” rules - rules you never wanted to follow.
I’ve been there. I’ve felt the fear, the frustration, and the anger. I spent five years in the “fight” before learning that my battle with autoimmune issues was less about fighting harder and more about listening to the messages my body was sending me. Only then was I able to begin healing. I’m here to say that there is hope. Maybe you were like me and felt like you tried everything - desperately searching for that one key that would unlock the door to healing. The good news is that I eventually found that key, and well, it really was three keys: the Brain, Nervous System, and Mindset.
When I focused on these three areas - the Brain, Nervous System, and Mindset - that's when I really started reversing my autoimmune.
A key part of my healing from autoimmune was supporting the brain, and recognizing how unresolved grief, trauma and dysfunctional relationships can cause the body to perceive that it is in danger. If the body doesn’t feel safe and is focused solely on survival, it can’t devote resources to healing. By working with the brain and body, and supporting a feeling of safety, the body can then devote resources to regain health. These can be heavy topics to explore, but that is what Living Bravely is all about!
I'm a scientist by training, and supporting the Nervous System and helping move the body out of a chronic Fight/Flight or Freeze state is an important step in rebuilding a sense of safety in the body. When the body feels safe, then it can devote resources towards healing. In my course, The Autoimmune Reset, I go into more detail about what you can do to support your Nervous System specifically by targeting the amazing vagus nerve.
Mindset - specifically how you speak to yourself, and whether you crave control and have perfectionistic tendencies - also impacts our health. Rebuilding the relationship you have with yourself, while also putting healthy boundaries in place, is also a crucial piece of the puzzle. By focusing on Mindset and speaking to yourself in a kind, compassionate manner, you’re actually encouraging the body out of “Fight /Flight or Freeze”. As you could probably guess, negative self talk does not spark healing!
